Hi! Thanks so much for stopping by. In case you didn’t read the home page, my name is Leah and I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I am a cis white female and was born and bred in Massachusetts. I have worked in the mental health field for the past eight years, seven of which have been as a psych NP.
I started my business in 2021 as a side hustle for my then full-time job in community mental health. My (naive) intention was to make my life easier - I would go part time at my other job as I build my business - but turns out I only made my life harder. For the next few years I slowly reduced my hours at my other job and increased my hours at my business. I finally took the leap to full time private practice in October 2023.
It was a challenging journey to make this change; I was very connected to my clients and my colleagues, having worked at the organization since 2016, and I struggled to prioritize myself. I was spread way too thin and it was obvious to those who know me well. Ultimately it took multiple interventions from friends and colleagues to make the change. Even those of us in the field need help and support from others to improve our mental health and quality of life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by humans. What do other people think, feel, and experience? In fact, I was voted most likely to host their own talk show when I was a child. I am endlessly curious about other peoples’ lived experiences.
I have also always found it very natural to listen, support, and help others; I have been giving my friends “therapy” for almost 25 years. So when I went down to D.C. for my first round of college, I majored in psychology. When considering what I wanted to do after I graduated, I explored various psych-related careers. During this process, I decided I wanted to become a nurse practitioner. The idea of learning about and helping others while using the tools that psychiatry provides was very appealing.
At that point it was too late to switch majors, though, so after graduation I moved back to Massachusetts, worked as a research assistant for a couple years, and then went back to school. I was placed as a NP intern at the community mental health organization listed above in 2016 and ended up staying there up until fall 2023 (see above). I also got married and had a kid along the way.
